One line, two numbers
Gambling: Help and Referral (Jeu : aide et référence) answers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. From anywhere in Québec, the number is 1-800-461-0140. In Montréal and surroundings, it is 514-527-0140. The line is bilingual, free, anonymous and confidential.
Québec residents can also reach the service by chat at aidejeu.ca. The line started on November 15, 1993, alongside the first casino. It is managed by the Information and Referral Centre of Greater Montréal. Loto-Québec funded it from 1993 to 2001, and the ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux has funded it since 2001.
Loto-Québec venues print the same number, 1-800-461-0140. Playground, which admits only people 18 or over, prints it too.
Self-exclusion, two systems
Loto-Québec takes enrolments in person at its offices in Montréal or Québec City, and at any of its casinos and gaming halls. Customers of lotoquebec.com can also self-exclude from their account. The exclusion is irrevocable once registered, for the length chosen. An exclusion from the casinos and gaming halls also blocks the person’s lotoquebec.com account. The program uses biometric facial recognition for those who consent to having their features stored in a secure database.
In Kahnawà:ke, the KGC’s Comprehensive Self-Exclusion covers all KGC-licensed land-based venues. The request goes to venue management or the KGC, with a photo and two pieces of government ID. A request to revoke is not considered before 6 months, or before 2 years if it is a second request. The contact address is exclusion@gamingcommission.ca.
Playground handles its own forms on site, at the Player Services Desk. A self-exclusion there runs from 6 months to as long as the person wants, and cannot be revoked before that time has passed.
